Alex Roman, Incredible Artist, Can You Tell It’s CGI?

Ran across Alex Roman’s work on another blog the other day and felt obligated to share. I used to work in the computer animation / graphics field back in the mid 90s. At that time, I could always spot computer graphics even when other people thought it was real. Even very well done computer graphics, especially in the 3D realm often felt static. Lighting and texturing objects can be incredibly difficult.

Alex Roman’s work is impossible for me to separate from reality. Using off the shelf software, he has produced not only incredible realistic shots, but also managed to produce artistic masterpieces. If you haven’t had a chance, check out some of his work. Some of his tools include 3DMax, VRay, and After Effects. This is amazing considering 3DMax previously know as 3D Studio used to be the ugly step child of animation packages.

He maintains a web site at www.thirdseventh.com

His video that has gone viral is call The Third & Seventh, exploring a space between architecture and photography.

He also is getting a lot of attention recently for a commercial for Silestone.
