Katherine or Catherine, not really sure, my grandmother was Catherine but everyone always misspelled her name with a K, so I am guessing Katherine. You will have to ask Drew and Heather to be sure. One thing to be sure of is this kid is large. This little beauty topped the charts at apparently 8lbs 5oz and a little over 20 inches long

Yes, after an easy day of relaxing in the sun, Heather delivered a cute little bundle of joy. Well, ok, so maybe Heather remembers the day a little differently. Maybe it wasn’t sunny, or easy, or relaxing, but hey! this is my version of the story, relax.

Drew and Heather looked radiant with the newest addition to their family. Well, ok, so maybe, in truth, they both looked a little tired, but hey! they were up the whole night, what do you expect!?

I am sure that they will be a little more relaxed and up for visitors tomorrow. Please call or check in with someone else who has visited to make sure that they are indeed up for visitors before popping in to see them and “Kate”. Here are a few pictures from their day.

The plants want out of the basement

Even doing my best to keep my little seedlings next to the lights, it just isn’t enough. They need sunlight and this is about the time of year I give it to them. I use the back bed of the garden as a holding area. I use simple pvc pipe stuck into the ground on both sides of the bed forming little hoops. Then I cover the hoops with a long sheet of plastic. This works just fine for hardening off the plants. Unfortunately, it also creates quite a bit of work. I try to keep the plants covered partially, part of the time in the beginning so that they don’t get sunburned. I will cover them completely most nights to keep them warm. Gradually I will stop doing both of these things and let them sit out all day and all night until planted.

Strawberries planted last fall are blooming now and the garlic is doing quite well. We planted 6 or 7 different varieties of hardneck garlic last fall. I expect a good crop due to the late frosts last year. Irises transplanted last year are starting to bloom and the top set onions are incredibly healthy.

All in all, the garden is shaping up. The beds still need prepped over the next couple of weeks and I still would like to get some piping for watering the garden as well as a small arbor over the north bed.

We are into the second day of our little blizzard. We have drifts about 4 feet deep in places and the snow this morning is coming down at about an inch and a half an hour. The picture with Jameson in the driveway was when we went out to shovel for the second time this morning. Hope everyone is doing well. Stay safe and warm.
