ShamrockSurprisingly, little is known of St. Patrick. He is the patron saint of Ireland but was born British. One thing is for certain, St. Patrick has come to be the pivotal figure in the United States when considering all things Irish. St. Patrick’s Day is the day for even those of non-Irish ancestry to celebrate the traditions of Ireland. In 2006 a survey reported that 12% of Americans are of Irish decent. ShamrockOh such a sad day. The Blarney Bash in Dublin Oh has been canceled this year in lieu of a bigger parade. This is very sad as I remember Dublin on St. Patrick’s day before the Blarney Bash was really in full swing. It wasn’t exactly a hopping town. As I recall, we froze in a make shift tent outside of the BrazenHead because there wasn’t room inside.

The city has stated that they want the city businesses to take more of an active part in participating. They are hoping that the businesses will have their own activities after the parade. I think this is all good in theory but I don’t believe any of the local businesses have the room for an event of any size. The city officials even pointed to Mary Kellys having entertainment this year as a sign of what they are hoping will take the place of the Blarney Bash. The problem is, that Mary Kellys probably only sits 200 hundred people (I am guessing) compared to the thousands that turned up for the Blarney Bash.
