thermometerI bought a bag of cherries from the store the other day. I thought it would be a good snack for the kids during a little picnic. I went to the drawer for a combination tool that minces garlic and pits cherries. I can state firmly that this tool is horrible. The pitting portion of the tool is in between the handles making it very awkward to use. It also only managed to hit the pit about 25% of the time.

So, I proceeded to rummage through our kitchen drawers for a chopstick. I had seen tv shows where the chef had used a chopstick to remove the pits. I had tried this method in the past and it too left a lot to be desired. However, during my search I found a tool that worked very well. (Read the rest of this entry »)

pencilI feel like our little blog is floundering so… I decided to add a little more structure. I plan on posting based on categories in the future. My hope is that this will help me to post more useful information on a regular basis. These posts are generally going to be outside of the normal family notes. Just my ramblings.

Monday: Projects. I will post details on any of my little projects. You will likely find everything from home improvement ideas to kids crafts.

Wednesday: Geek speek. I will discuss software and technology.

Friday: Everything else. Cooking, opinions and anything else that doesn’t fit into a neat little category.

Family notes will be posted anytime that we have time.

I also am going to start making notes on my garden, sort of a daily journal. Due to the fact that I assume that this will bore everyone to tears, the posts will not appear on the front page of the blog. I will add a new menu item at the top that will access all of the garden notes.

We have been trying to eat a little better lately. To that end we have tried quite a few new recipes. Some of them have been quite nice and others not so much. Deb tends to be much more excited about a few well cooked veggies then meat any day of the week. I bought a book last year, The Culinary Institute of America, Vegetables. To date we haven’t had anything out of the cook book that we didn’t like. One of our favorites was their version of Vegetable Burgers. Unfortunately, as is my thing, I have changed it a little here and there. It is very close to the original recipe but I think my version is a little “meatier”. Enough with this, here it is. Enjoy.
