Hole sawProblem: I had to enlarge a hole for a door knob lock set. Unfortunately, hole saws work, by first drilling a pilot hole that is used to guide the hole cutter itself. With the hole already present, the pilot bit was worthless

Solution: What I did was took a scrap piece of 1/4 inch plywood and drilled a hole completely through it will a hole saw of the desired size. I then used double stick tape and stuck the piece of plywood (the outer portion) to the door lining it up by eye. I then used the piece of plywood as a guide for the outside edge of my hole saw. Once the hole is started you can remove the piece of plywood or you can leave it in place. A note, the double sided tape may remove finish. If in doubt, clamp the plywood in place instead of using double sided tape.

Grill CoverWe have a jogger stroller that didn’t come with a cover. Since the stroller is normally stored in our garage it tends to get covered with dirt and dust. While we couldn’t find a stroller cover we did find a reasonable alternative.

A round grill cover fits quite nicely over our stroller and was quite cheap when compared to other stroller covers.

Baby GateAdjustable baby gates are wonderful in that they are both cheap and adjustable. Their weakness is that they are difficult to adjust. The little clip is always wanting to slip out of place and you often don’t know which notch works best for the door way. We found two solutions to this problem.

  1. Use a marker and mark the notch that works best. This works great if you are often moving the gate between different width doors.
  2. If the gate is being used primarily in one doorway or is used in doorways that are the same size you can fix the gate into one position. We used a wire staple to hold the clip in the notch that best fit our door and it still remains both collapsible and easily sets into place.
