Apple foldover / tart recipe
My kids and wife just love sweets. This recipe is a nice compromise between a nice sweet snack and something that you would prefer not to feed the kids. It uses a pre-made pie crust which makes the assembly quick and painless. Scott Edler is the source for this recipe and prefers to use different types of apples. I have made some slight modifications to the recipe because I can’t just leave good enough alone 🙂 .
Ingredients
3 cups | peeled apples cut into thin wedges (about 4 apples) |
1 | tablespoon butter or margarine |
1 | teaspoon lemon juice |
1 | corn starch |
1 | tablespoon granulated sugar |
1/4 | teaspoon salt |
1/2 | teaspoon cinnamon |
1 | Pillsbury® refrigerated pie crust (from 15-oz box) |
1 | egg |
Directions
Preheat oven to 375.
Unroll refrigerated pie crust onto a cookie sheet. In a bowl combine the apples, lemon juice, corn starch, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly. Pour the apple mixture onto the center of the pie crust. Take the edges of the pie crust and pull towards the center. The crust should have the center open with the edges folded up approximately an inch. In a bowl scramble the egg. Using a brush paint the edges of the pie crust that you turned over with the egg wash.
Bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
