Time outs for adults
I am proposing a new form of public discipline, “time outs” for adults. Yesterday, I was checking out at Kohls when I noticed that the woman in front of me was making quite a scene. Kohls has their scratch off tickets where you can save between 15 and 30 percent off of your entire order. This wonderful specimen of humanity wasn’t happy with the single ticket and was insisting that the cashier run up each item separately so that she could get 5 scratch off tickets for her 5 items. Seriously lady!
I propose benches or chairs clearly labeled for “time outs” to be installed in every public store or establishment. Anyone who witnesses someone being rude can implement a public time out, requiring that person to be sent to the designated time out area. Since the common guideline has been to give 1 minute of time out for each year old, this seems especially appropriate. I am estimating that this woman was in her late 50s, so spending almost an hour in time out may have settled her attitude.
“Time outs for everyone” is my slogan. I know that my wife will be happy to give me a time out whenever needed. Maybe I too will benefit from someone reminding me that I am an adult and I should act like one.
