A few titles for your reading pleasure
Truth be told, this post is for my sister Kathy. She teaches high school English. If that isn’t enough, she occasionally points out my grammatical errors. We both love the idea that there are people who believe in banning books or other forms of censorship. How ridiculous!
In the spirit of pointing out our mistakes in the last century, I give Kathy and most likely her students a list of “must read” books for the upcoming school year.
The top ten banned books of the 20th century
- The Grapes of Wrath [1939] John Steinbeck
- Lady Chatterley’s Lover [1928] D. H. Lawrence
- Slaughterhouse-Five [1969] Kurt Vonnegut
- To Kill a Mockingbird [1960] Harper Lee
- Fahrenheit 451 [1953] Ray Bradbury
- The Catcher in the Rye [1951] J.D. Salinger
- Tropic of Cancer [1934] Henry Miller
- Naked Lunch [1959] William S. Burroughs
- Ulysses [1922] James Joyce
- 1984 [1949] George Orwell
