Oops, said Facebook
OK, I’m a technology professional… or at least that is what I tell myself and apparently I’m also an idiot.
My loving wife at the prodding of our friend Angie, suggested that I join Facebook. Great! I think that is a wonderful idea. I set up my account about a week ago and haven’t really done anything with it until this morning. It was interesting to see if I could find old friends from college, so I embarked on uploading my contacts file from Outlook.
Now, this is where the idiot part comes in. I don’t necessarily trust any web site with passwords to other web sites, so erring on the side of safety I dumped all of my contacts from Outlook into a csv file. I then uploaded the file to Facebook. Yeah! All kinds of aquaintances and friends are already on Facebook.
Unfortunately, I assumed that this would just request to be a friend from those people that were already on Facebook. But ohhhh no. It blasted emails to every single contact in that list.
My wife will be pleased to know that I invited old girlfriends, ex-employers, and even some of her friends.
Yeah, sorry about that. Maybe I will read the small print next time. I am my own virus.
