Summary: This has become a staple in our house. From Ohio or not, this chili deserves a chance in your house. If you haven’t had a Cincinnati style chili before, be warned that this is not your mother’s chili. With chocolate and spices like cinnamon, you will most definitely put this recipe in a category of its own. We hope you enjoy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/2 lb ground sirloin
- 2-3 medium onions, finely diced
- 2 or more garlic cloves
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 4 teaspoons vinegar
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 ounce unsweetened chocolate
- 1 10 ounce can of tomato sauce
- 1 15 ounce can of kidney beans
- cooked spagetti
- cheddar cheese
- hot sauce
Instructions
- Brown the sirloin and turkey. As meat is browning, add diced onion and cook until soft, 3 – 5 minutes.Add the remaining ingredients up to the kidney beans. You can add the kidney beans at the same time, but they tend to break up during cooking.
- Simmer for approximately 1 hour. Add kidney beans and simmer while you are cooking the spaghetti.
- To serve, dish a small amount of pasta into bowl or plate and cover with chili. Optionally garnish with cheese and hot sauce of your choice
